This is the 2nd book of Paulo Coelho that i’ve read. I read ‘The Alchemist’ before and directly took him as my fav author.

Well this book takes some stories from the bible but dont ever think that you will read such a priest’s speech in a Sunday morning. Cause thats what a novelist for, makes a story more interesting and read-worthy.

The Fifth Mountain talks about Elia’s (Ilyas for moslems) journey to find God. Just like us, a prophet can feel dissappointed with God. Something that leads us to some questions like “Where is God ?”, “Why is He so cruel ?”, “Did He really see me ?”, or the most extreme one “Is God really exist ?”.

Actually we never know what He plan for us. Maybe God makes it comes to us cause He has a more beautiful plan for us, more than what we think. We’ll know in the end obviously, but to keep thinking positively in such a terrible condition is really difficult i see. The easiest way to spread our uncontrolable emotion is blamming someone. And the easiest one to blame is God. Cause if He gets angry of being blamed we’ll not get the impact immediately. Then of course God is the official owner of all these lives so He must be the One in charge of what happen to us.

Elia ever think about that when so many soldiers try to catch him for saying the truth about God. He said, “Look what God makes to me for being in His side faithfully.”. And the best part i think is when an Israel man answers, “God is God. If He just makes good things, then there must a God of bad things. I’ll prefer to believe in that God of bad things instead. But I believe that all of these come for a reason, so I totally put my life in His hand. I’m not afraid in death, cause I’m sure He has prepared a more beautiful place for me by His side.”

Damn , thats really inspiring .. Makes me see this life in a really different point of view. Just believe there’s a Power that controls its all. The same Power that controls all planets stay comfortly in their own orbit. An uncontrolable Power that freely makes anything in Its on way, often not the way we expected but just believe that everything happens for a REASON.

Anyway fifth mountain is believed by people as the house of Gods. Gods, it means more than one. This book tells us the efforts of Elia as a wanderer to change the belief of people. He had a hardest time in his life trying to made people believe only in one God and stop praying in the fifth mountain.

Theres also a romantic story between Elia and a widow that shares her house with him. It shows us that we cant just deny the feeling built inside, we cant just throw it away or ignore it. Love is a gift from God even for a prophet. But just like others, a gift from God never last forever. When we got it, we have to prepare ourselves to loose it. Cause theres always a ‘goodbye’ after a ‘hello’. So dont love anything too much or it will be so hard to let it go.
